What is TeX?

The TeX typesetting system was invented by Donald Knuth in the seventies and is still the preeminent system for typesetting mathematics and other technical material. For more information on TeX, please visit the TeX User's Group web site.

What is LaTex?

LaTeX, originally developed by Leslie Lamport, defines a uniform structure for TeX documents, separating content from format, much like the Web's Cascading Style Sheets (although devised about a decade earlier).
